As part of PetSmart Charities' dedication to the well-being of animals, we offers grants to amazing animal welfare organizations all over the nation. These organizations range in size and focus, but they all have the same goal: to save the lives of homeless pets and place them in forever homes.
One of the organizations recently selected for a PetSmart Charities grant is Kitty Angel Rescue, a pet rescue located just outside of Atlanta, Georgia.
According to Cheryl Lee Darity, founder and executive director of Kitty Angel Rescue, the organization’s mission is to reduce euthanasia through rescue, adoption and education.
“We are a small yet determined rescue organization dedicated to being the voice for the voiceless,” says Darity.
Funding Veterinary Care
Like many other animal charities, Kitty Angel Rescue faces immense challenges.
“Due to the overwhelming problem of pet overpopulation, the need for rescue far outweighs the ability to save them all,” says Darity. “Limited funds and resources are among our top challenges, in addition to educating the public about the critical importance of spaying and neutering their pets.”
Grants from organizations like PetSmart Charities empower Kitty Angel Rescue to carry out their valuable work. The organization will use the grant money to provide veterinary and general care for the many kittens and cats they take in, and who eventually end up in PetSmart’s adoption centers, where they await their forever homes.
Piglet Gets Her Second Chance
Every rescued cat has a special place in Darity’s heart, but one stands out to her in particular: a 14-year-old cat named Piglet.
“Her previous owner moved out of state, leaving Piglet homeless and very depressed,” says Darity.
Kitty Angel Rescue welcomed Piglet with open arms, despite knowing how difficult it is to find homes for senior pets. For more than a year, she waited to meet a new family, but finally, someone fell in love with Piglet and took her home.
Thanks to the hard work of Kitty Angel Rescue and such funding as the grant from PetSmart Charities, pets like Piglet can have a second chance.
